Long-distance move from Westport, CT to West Chester, OH

Horrible experience.

This is actually the first review of anything (restaurants, stores, services, etc) I've ever left - my experience was that awful. To start, when the movers arrived to pick up the items in Connecticut, they immediately said the furniture was much larger than they anticipated. When we got a quote with the company, we clearly described the items that were to be moved in detail, so I'm not sure what the issue was. We would have happily provided dimensions of the furniture, but were not asked to do so (nor have I ever had to do that with any of the other 5+ moves I've been through..). The movers were extremely rude the entire time they were at the house, and then informed me I owed them an additional $700 (on top of the $1300 they quoted) due to the "bulkiness" of the furniture. At this point, all of my stuff was on the truck, so I felt like I had no choice but to pay them. They also gouged a long scratch in the hardwood floor (didn't put down any protective mats) moving furniture.

I was hoping that would be the worst of the experience, and honestly, I could have lived with that perfectly fine. However, the experience just got worse. I had explained to the company that I would not have access to the new house until March 29th. I called on the 27th to check in on what the ETA for the delivery was. They had previously said either the 29th or the 30th. When I called on the 27th, they weren't able to give a date, just said the end of the week. Then I got a call on Thursday, the 28th, saying they were planning on delivering that afternoon (BEFORE I had access to the house). I explained this to the man who called, who proceed to say "This isn't UPS, we don't just deliver whenever you want." He then explained very rudely if I insisted upon having the furniture delivered the next day, he was showing up at 6 am because he "wasn't going to be waiting around all day for me." When I finally got in contact with a supervisor, they were able to schedule the move for 9am on Friday - great! However, they told me between 8am-10am, and specified the driver was going to be arriving at 9am. So I showed up at the house at 9am, and ended up waiting until 10:45 for the driver to arrive. This wasn't a big deal, I could deal with 45 minutes late. However, when the truck did arrive, there was ONE (1) mover. My furniture set, which was so bulky they had to charge an extra $700, was to be moved by one person. The mover was not able to get the furniture into the house, so unloaded all of the furniture into the garage and left. I had to hire other movers to move the furniture into the house.

Overall, I learned this company is a scam. They will quote you at a very low price, then jack the price up once they have your belongings. They clearly never intended to actually move the furniture pieces into place inside of my house either, having only sent one mover. I would not recommend this company to anyone, and am looking into potentially filing a consumer complaint.

Hello,

We do not provide in home estimates as stated to you during the booking process. We must do a verbal estimate over the phone in order to provide you with an accurate quote according to where you are moving to and what you will be transporting. After the initial inventory is collected you are then provided with a quality assurance call 3 to 5 days before your pick up is to take place to ensure we are as accurate as possible by reviewing your inventory and breakdowns again. Also at the time of pick up the foreman will complete another walk through comparing the estimate to what is actually on site. If there is a revision needed the foreman reviews this with you and you must agree to the revision prior to any goods being loaded.

Optional Accessorial Services and Additional fees (if applicable to the move): It is customary for the carrier to offer additional service options to the customer. Optional services include, but are not limited to, storage, packing, materials, unpacking, appliance servicing, shuttle, long carry, rigging hoisting and lowering, wooden crating, exclusive use of vehicle, guaranteed delivery, etc. If customer orders an additional service or an additional service is required to complete the move then the charge for the service will be added to the final bill. Optional Accessorial post contract services not included in your estimate include:

First flight of stairs is included (10 steps), each additional flight is $75.00.
Long carry: first 100 feet are included, each additional 100 feet will be charged $75.00 per 100 feet.
Shuttle service: if semi-trailer cannot get reasonably close to building or house for loading/unloading (75 feet), a shuttle truck may be required to perform relocation at a minimum charge of $300.
Packing of fragile/delicate items (such as TVs, glass, etc.); packing and crating services not already listed within proposal; loading of bulky items (such as a motorcycle).
Packing supplies such as boxes, bubble wrap, etc.
Storage: any additional month will be charged at $0.40-$0.50 per cubic foot ($140 minimum).
For full packing service: All labor and materials to professionally pack all boxes, fragile items, and furniture listed. If additional items are added at time of pick up, then the total price for full service packing will be increased and adjusted by the guaranteed rate provided. A new agreement will be presented at time of pick up.

Great company!

I used Patriot Moving Group earlier this week. I'm very big on getting what I pay for and all I can say is this company was worth every cent. None of my furniture was damaged and they worked with me on my pickup dates and times as my job doesn’t leave me with a flexible schedule. Everything was extremely exceptional from the people on the phones to the people that showed up. I highly recommend Patriot Moving Group to anyone who is looking for an all inclusive move.

Move from MA to NH.

The guys that showed up were very professional. They only had to move furniture but it was all very heavy oak and it was pouring out the whole time. They wrapped all my pieces in blankets so not to damage anything. They worked together like a well oiled machine. Very friendly with a great work ethic, they were thorough and respectful with our wishes. I would definitely refer anyone I know moving to call Patriot first.

Overall Great Experience.

Patriot Moving Group has done a great job moving my items from Pittsburgh to Florida. It’s the first time I’ve used movers, or moved out of state, and these guys really made the process much easier for me. Very fair and accurate pricing from Michael along with the customer care team had kept me feeling comfortable start to finish. Definitely would recommend to family or friends.

Broker - Please do Your Research And do Not Hire.

Broker subcontracted me thru American Home Relocation, for which I had zero control over, and the process has been an absolute nightmare. I have had a $2000 TV lost or stolen (said it has been found but no attempts to redeliver a month after initial delivery even though contract has been paid in full), $492 overcharge upon delivery without any proof of documentation or explanation, and a broken end table. All signs and research of American Home Relocation show they are an untrustworthy and fraudulent company, yet Patriot Moving Group linked me with them without any warning or consideration to my belongings, money, and most importantly, mental health. I have made repeated contacts with both companies yet customer service will provide no answers or explanations to solve their negligence. Extremely disappointed in the entire process and feel my rights as a consumer have been violated.

Hello,

At the time of pick up the foreman will complete a walk through comparing the estimate to what is actually on site. In your case a revision had to be made because you had additional cubic feet. You had an additional 124 cubic feet at the price you were quoted per cf did come out to a charge of an additional $451.00 and you also need packing. The packing charge we discounted for you in order to satisfy you. We also explained that you were not obligated to pay additional that you could revert back to your original cubic footage but you would need to remove an additional items that were causing your load to go over the reserved amount of space or if you wanted to bring everything you had on site including additional items then logically you would have to pay for the additional space you were wanting to use. Any and all revisions are explained and must be signed off on prior to any goods being loaded. The t.v was located and that was also communicated with you. Since the t.v was recovered at the warehouse where you were loaded onto the delivery trailer it was left behind there. In order to get this back to you we have to include it in the next trailer headed to your specific area. Sometimes this can take a little while depending on where those trailers are located, if they are filled to capacity or if they are still in transit coming back from previous deliveries. You were also given all claim information.

Long-distance move from Edenton, NC to Melbourne, FL

Worst moving experience ever!

I had no idea this company was merely a broker! They passed off the move to American Home Relocation and what a miserable experience it was -- from both the broker and the subcontractor. The movers called at 5:30pm to say they would be there at 6:30pm for the pickup after I was initially told we would receive 24 hrs notice. I declined the time slot because we lived on a 4 lane highway and the police department had to be notified in advance that we had to park a truck on the right lane. (It was after police department regular hours) After they agreed to come the following morning, they showed up anyway!! I specifically told Patriot Movers that there was a box of dishes and kitchen supplies that would need to be repacked for the move. It arrived in FL in the same box, no packing between the dishes and just taped up with, of course, broken dishes. This move also required a pickup from a storage unit. The movers charged an additional fee to use the elevator! The movers FINALLY arrived in FL at 9:30pm!! The rented truck pulled up with, I kid you not, furniture shrink wrapped and hanging to the back of the truck! They came in with the boxes and literally dumped them on the living room floor. They were already so damaged that we wanted to check all the boxes before letting the movers leave. They were NOT happy about that! Fortunately, we had photos of the contents of the storage unit. A brand new set of pots and pans somehow didn't make it to the inventory list and disappeared. We also had trash cans and bathroom supplies that did NOT belong to us! Inventory control was severely inadequate. I was told that the reason the move quote increased was because the cubic feet needed forced them to find another truck. (yeah right) When I went outside to the truck asking to see if the box of pots and pans was still on the truck I was appalled to see just how LITTLE space our contents had taken on the truck!! And, finally -- the TV didn't work after we had to purchase a new power cord because it was missing from the boxes. Since it took Amazon 2 days to arrive by the time we contacted the movers it was, surprise, outside the window it needed to be reported. This was a cluster of a move and I DO NOT recommend this company.

Hello,

The fact that Patriot Moving Group is a broker is clearly stated in your agreement that is presented to you prior to any deposit or payment being made. Our agreement is very clear with no fine print and only three pages long enabling each customer to be able to read through it and agree by electronically signing accepting all terms, After booking you are also sent a verification script that goes over all information in regards to packing and other details in regards to pick up and delivery. You are notified the day before the 1st day of your pick up window with the date and time frame the movers will arrive for pick up by both Patriot Moving and the dispatcher. Not at one point was it mentioned that the police department need approval for the parking of the truck until it was mentioned when giving pick up eta. This should have been discussed at the time of booking in order for dispatch to take that into consideration when completing the schedules. Our trucks pick up multiple customers in a day and if a time slot is declined by a customer a lot of rescheduling needs to be done and effects other clients as well. In regards to the delivery time. Our trucks are on routes and when they arrive you are notified, if the time is to late then this must be told to the driver when he calls you to confirm the time frame. You agreed to the time the driver would arrive. Also the charge was not for an elevator it was for a long carry. If the foreman needs to carry the goods from the truck to the elevator and then to your homes entrance and it is over 75ft then charges are applied. This is also outlined in all documents.

Optional Accessorial Services and Additional fees (if applicable to the move):It is customary for the carrier to offer additional service options to the customer.

Do not use Patriot they are scammers! *Class Action*.

It seems they have a Mode Operandum, they continuously and intentionally raise the price upon arrival. The mover they sent tried to upvharge me before even seeing my stuff. Craig told me I was to pay $507 so I refused to pay extra, and the mover left and Danielle scheduled a new one, but kept changing the time when they knew my family needed to be back in NC by a certain time. And they are saying I cancelled and holding my deposit of $613! I was up in NJ to have them move my stuff and they expected us to just hang around until they sent someone. Now I still need to find an adequate mover to move my stuff I am suing them for my deposit, as well as for the time my husband missed from work, the extra month of storage I have to now pay,and the extra night hotel bill we incurred because their first mover tried to scam us. Anyone looking to join in a class action suit against Patriot Moving Company Llc please contact me at Familybiz365@gmail.com.

Official company response

Patriot Moving Group would first like to extend our sincerest apology for any inconvenience experienced by you and your family.

Upon review of our records, it appears that our team provided you with an over the phone estimate for your move. Phone estimates are based on the items a client specifies during their inventory, so they are subject to change in the event that any items are forgotten or not disclosed during the quoting process. Your reservation guaranteed you a total of 352 cubic feet on our fleet truck to transport your items. Upon the arrival of our foreman, however, your storage unit was filled to its capacity. Due to the incomplete inventory we were provided, the footage you reserved was not enough to fulfill your move.

Per Patriot Moving Group's contractual agreement, any additional cubic footage the undisclosed items require must be paid for at pick-up in order for the reservation to be upheld. When our foreman arrived and discovered that the client's items far surpassed the reserved footage, he attempted to break down the additional charges that her extra items required in order to be moved. Upon explanation of the additional charges, the client became upset and denied any further services that day. In an attempt to reconcile the issue, Patriot Moving Group contacted the client and dispatched a second crew to retrieve her items the following day. Our Customer Service Supervisor explained that this crew would arrive later in the afternoon, and provided the client with an approximated window of arrival. The client expressed at this point that she wanted to cancel her services with Patriot Moving Group, despite the fact that she was no longer eligible for a refund per our contract. By this point, we had paid for and dispatched two separate crews to the client's pick-up location, which is why our contract specifies such a rigid post-move-date refund policy.

The Patriot Moving Group team is disappointed to hear that a client was anything less than satisfied with our services. We strive to provide both transparency and world-class service to each individual and family that we move. We will continue working diligently to provide a solution to this client that is mutually acceptable to both her family and ours. In light of this situation, we urge all potential clients to be diligent and thorough while providing an inventory to any moving company, as forgotten items will cause rate changes.

Use anyone else - They don't use good movers.

I used this company when I moved and they did a horrible job contracting a mover. Their website says they only used trusted movers, but the company they contracted to move my goods had numerous complaints with the FMCSA. The complaints ranged from hostage of goods to overcharging outside of contract.

My contract stated 75 dollars per 10 stairs. When the movers arrived they told me they would not deliver the goods unless I paid 75 dollars per 7 steps. When I contacted the brokers about this they rolled over and let the movers overcharge me.

I would never recommend using them. Instead book an actual moving company who you can verify has a good history and reputation.

Hello,

We have carrier/broker agreements with all of our carriers who then adopt our policies and agreements. Most carrier's have their own policies as well that they use on other individual jobs which pertain to their personal clients alone and not to any of our customers. Looking into your file the issue of stairs was brought up and revised by the dispatcher after we reached out to them and had them correct the error the foreman did in your stair fees.
